Mentoring Programme for Academic Writing

01.10.2019

In the upcoming semester a mentoring programme will be offered at the Department for Islamic-Theological Studies!

The mentoring programme supports bachelor degree students, as early in their studies as possible, in the development of academic writing skills through the transfer of research, reading, writing and revision strategies as well as and through (peer-) feedback.

from students – for students
free but effective
regular, but without obligation

Mentors: Eva Bayomy, Daniel Azomji, Sarah Georgina Sobota;

Place: BP2, EG der Schenkenstraße 8-10, 1010

Time: DI, 13:15-14:45

This extracurricular class also addresses problems of students with a first language other than German with respect to the use of German academic language.

What can I expect in the Mentoring Programme for Academic Writing?

The tutors organize writing groups in which the strategies for the work with literature, structure, argumentation, preparing a first draft and editing of texts  are transferred. A central role is reserved for  (peer-) feedback, which is adjusted to the phase of writing. Furthermore, tutors also offer personal feedback to the participants. The tutors from the Master's Degree in German as a Foreign and Second language provide support for students with first language other than German and help with their doubts concerning the usage of German academic language.

Can I get an accreditation for the participation in the Mentoring Programme?

Mentoring Programme for Academic Writing is not a class, but instead it is thought of as an offer of  support from student tutors to other students with regard to requirements of the degree. Therefore, no ECTS points are given for the participation in the programme.
