Considering the key function of Islamic religious education for the integration of people of the Muslim faith into Austrian society, the question arises after 40 years of experience with Islamic religious education to what extent it has actually achieved its educational goals in public schools in Austria.

The history of Islamic religious education, the resulting experiences and desiderata are the topics that the planned symposium would like to address, at the end of which, in addition to taking stock of 40 years of Islamic religious education, proposals for shaping its future should also be available.
