In view of the educational subject's key function in integrating people of the Muslim faith into Austrian society, the event wanted to explore the question of the extent to which Islamic religious education actually achieves its educational goals in Austria's public schools.

The aim of the symposium was to look at Islamic religious education in Austria from different perspectives and to give stakeholders at different levels the opportunity to share their experiences with religious education and to exchange views on its opportunities, challenges and areas of aspiration for its future development, as well as to highlight grievances and present suggestions for improvement. During the symposium, more than 30 presentations were given by national and international experts and reflected upon in subsequent panel discussions. A written publication of the results of the symposium is planned for September 2023.
