Learning outcomes and qualifications

The young science of Islamic Religious Education as part of Islamic Theology analyses the religious teaching-learning processes and reflects them in the new context of Muslim children and young people. In addition to the academic tradition in Islam, Islamic religious education combines empirical, hermeneutic as well as tradition-critical perspectives in teaching and research and tries to encourage students to reflect on the existing conditions in religious teaching and learning processes and to orientate themselves towards the subject.

In the study of Islamic Religious Education, students are also enabled to develop Islamic teachings and the religious field of Muslims in the European context within the horizon of the Islamic tradition and to meet the challenges of the professional field in schools, communities and society.

Students of the bachelor's programme in Islamic-Theological Studies who chose the specialisation in Islamic Religious Education at the University of Vienna acquire general educational competences in addition to knowledge of theology, philosophy and the study of religions. The pedagogical-practical studies in conjunction with teaching practice at schools complement the academic education for the field of education at Islamic and non-Islamic institutions.
